The tax class determines the amount of your net salary (i.e. after deducting taxes). Or rather, it determines the amount of tax deductions. The tax class depends on the family situation of a person. In the German tax system there is a choice between a total of 6 wage tax classes. You can find out which tax class is right for you from your local tax office. Apart from that, there is also the possibility to use various online help portals for this.
